Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Senior MEP Estimator to lead cost estimation for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems on high-value construction projects, such as hospitals and data centers, in South Florida. The ideal candidate will bring subject matter expertise in areas such as hospitals, data centers or super high end luxury hi rise projects to develop accurate, competitive bids for multi hundred million-dollar projects, ensuring cost efficiency and alignment with client expectations. This role requires collaboration with project teams, subcontractors, and vendors to deliver precise MEP estimates in South Florida’s dynamic construction market.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead MEP cost estimation for high-value projects ($100M+), including hospitals, high end luxury hi rise projects, and other complex developments, from conceptual design through construction documents.
- Perform detailed takeoffs and cost analyses for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness.
- Collaborate with project executives, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to develop value engineering solutions and optimize MEP budgets.
- Prepare comprehensive bid packages, including scope sheets, qualifications, and exclusions, for MEP subcontractors and vendors.
- Utilize advanced estimating software (e.g., Accubid, Trimble, Bluebeam) to streamline takeoffs, cost modeling, and bid preparation.
- Review project plans, specifications, and MEP designs to identify potential risks, cost-saving opportunities, and constructability issues.
- Negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers to secure competitive pricing while maintaining quality standards.
- Provide accurate cost data and reports to project teams and senior leadership, supporting preconstruction planning and client presentations.
- Ensure compliance with Broward County building codes, ASHRAE standards, and industry regulations for MEP systems.
- Mentor junior estimators, fostering a culture of precision, collaboration, and excellence within the estimating team.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in MEP estimating for a general contractor, with at least 5 years on high-value projects (e.g., hospitals, data centers, $100M+).
- Experience estimating MEP systems for at least 3 projects valued at $100 million or more, including hospital or data center construction.
- Proven expertise in mechanical (HVAC, chillers), electrical (power distribution, lighting), and plumbing systems for complex facilities.
- Proficiency in MEP estimating software (e.g., Accubid, Trimble, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong knowledge of Broward County building codes, NFPA, ASHRAE, and other relevant MEP standards.
- Exceptional analytical, negotiation, and communication skills, with a focus on accuracy and client satisfaction.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, construction management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Certifications such as CPE (Certified Professional Estimator) or LEED AP preferred.
- Established relationships with South Florida MEP subcontractors and suppliers a plus.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple bids and deadlines.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience estimating MEP systems for mission-critical facilities (e.g., data centers with redundant power, hospitals with advanced HVAC).
- Familiarity with sustainable MEP design and certifications (e.g., LEED, ENERGY STAR).
- Proven ability to deliver competitive bids for high-profile clients in South Florida’s healthcare or tech sectors.
- Expertise in navigating Fort Lauderdale’s permitting and regulatory processes for complex projects.
